Texas Child Support

A court determines the amount of child support based on Texas guidelines. See Support Guidelines Chart. However, the level of support may be increased or decreased by the court based on qualifying factors:

• Special medical or educational needs
• Day care expenses
• Support obligations to other children
• Shared parenting
• Best interests of the child

Child support typically stops at age 18 or graduation from high school, though it can be indefinite for special needs children. If parenting time is a true 50/50 split, the support order may be adjusted downward.
